Senior technical designer

Empire Technical Fabrication is currently seeking a Senior Technical Designer to join our team. This position is based at our Wayne, NJ facility.  
 

The primary responsibility of the Senior Technical Designer is to oversee the technical design team in their work to design and engineer all scenic elements based on the technical requirements, financial, and scheduling goals defined by the project management staff. As well as work with the Director of Projects to develop and improve project workflows. This includes but is not limited to the following:


  • Review and consult on all project design schedules produced by the Director of Projects
  • Review and approve all design content produced by staff Technical Designers
  • Review and approve all structural analysis and other related engineering calculations produced by staff Technical Designers
  • Assist in any design and engineering-based support required by the project
  • management team and assigned by the Director of Projects
  • Collaborate with Project Managers to review all shop drawings before they are released to the shop floor, or client      
  • Work with Director of Projects to hire and manage subcontract design staff
  • Identify weaknesses in the current design/ engineering workflows and actively work with direct supervisor to optimize and improve this process
  • Identify weaknesses in the current CNC/ digital manufacturing workflows and      actively work with direct supervisor to optimize and improve this process
  • Manage stock parts model content and coordinate with the operations staff in the development and continued integration of design workflows into the MRP      system
  • Personally function as the Project Engineer and manage all design coordination on the company’s most complex projects
  • Create  and manage 2d and 3d coordination content, integrating internal design       data and external physical and design data to ensure clear communication of fit, function, and scope bounds to all stakeholders
  • Personally design specific items on company’s most complex projects as assigned by the Director of  Projects

Salary for this position starts at $85,000

Required (Basic) Qualifications

· Minimum of 5+ years of commercial theatre or entertainment industry experience including supervisory experience

·  Highly proficient in AutoCAD 2d and 3d, some experience in Inventor is a plus, proficient in Microsoft Office 365 including Teams and SharePoint

· Strong understanding of scenic construction and automation 

· Ability to effectively prioritize, execute, and problem solve in a high-pressure environment and work efficiently within given time constraints; highly organized 

· Ability to communicate ideas clearly 

· Self-motivated; team oriented and highly collaborative work style

· Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship, now or in the future.
